Many businesses and homeowners may be tempted by DIY pipe freezing kits due to their low upfront cost. However, these kits often lack the precision and power needed for reliable freezing, especially in industrial settings. Potential issues include:
Incomplete Freezes: Kits may not achieve the required temperature to form a full ice plug, leading to leaks.
Safety Risks: Handling cryogenic substances without professional guidance can result in injuries or equipment damage.
Costly Mistakes: Failed freezes can result in pipe bursts or water damage, leading to expensive repairs.
We use many instruments to verify ice formation throughout the freezing process, including pyrometers, thermocouples, thermal imaging devices.
Pipes crack when the ice grows without space to expand. This is usually a closed valve or another ice formation. The technicians at Cryo Tech are trained to ensure proper spacing and pressure venting to avoid this issue
While pipe freezing has no size limit, we currently offer pipeline freezing services up to 36” in diameter.
Draining the entire system or using isolation valves are alternatives to pipe freezing. This will time-consuming, labor-intensive and may cause disruptions.
For a single freeze, we freeze a single point on the line and this means you can mechanically hold back one side. Each freeze will provide a single point of blockage in the line which can be used in the case where one side of the line can be drained. By having two (double freeze) isolation points, you allow a section between the two plugs for modifications.
